Hot Mushroom

Agriculture | October 12

Agaricus mushroom (champignon) is a temperate specie and requires low temperature cultural condition for growth and fruiting. A high temperature tolerant white button Agaricus mushroom developed in this work can now be propagated in large scale under hot lowland condition in tropical countries without installation of expensive cooling system thus allowing more farmers and investors to venture in this profitable agri-business. Moreover, the additional value of this technology is the utilization of the spent substrate as animal feedstock and/or soil conditioner. The lignocellulose-degrading enzyme produced by the fungus is essential in the biodegradation of agricultural waste material thus it is environment friendly.

Styropor and Plastic Bag Recycling

Environment / Energy | October 12

Our business is to help LGU’s, fast food chains and junk shops turn their waste styropor and plastic bags into functional products for cleaner environment. Styropor and plastic bags are non biodegradable and presently not being recycled. They are only stacked in barangay MRF’s and junk shops and accumulate. When not collected, they clog the drainage and cause flood. Our technology involves melting the styropor and plastic bags in a melting oven with preheated used cooking oil to produce synthetic lumber, pavement blocks, planters, etc.. The business has 100% ROI, 1 year payback period and 20% net income after tax.

Pinatubo Bone Implant

Environment / Energy | October 12

We manufacture cheap but quality indigenous bioactive glass-ceramic bone implants using non magnetic Pinatubo ejecta and bone ash. The Pinatubo ejecta is passed through a coupled pole magnetic separator to remove the iron minerals. The collected non magnetic component is mixed with bone ash and other raw materials, poured in a platinum crucible and melted in a furnace. The melt is casted then heat treated to get the bioactive glass ceramics. The glass ceramics is sold as substitute to imported and expensive Titanium, stainless steel or glass-ceramics implants. The worldwide orthopedic surgery market is approximately 9 billion US$ per year.

Pinatubo Porcelain

Environment / Energy | October 12

Our business is to utilize indigenous non-magnetic Pinatubo ejecta to produce porcelain body to cater to the US$39.7 billion export market. The Pinatubo ejecta is passed through a coupled pole magnetic separator to remove the iron minerals. The collected non magnetic components, now a high purity feldspar, is mixed with kaolin and silica then ball milled to very fine particles. The mixed and ground porcelain body could now be used to make porcelains with desired whiteness and translucency but low firing temperature. This will be marketed to porcelain makers, who are presently importing their porcelain body.

Home Builders

Environment / Energy | October 12

Home Builders Manufacturing Company produces Coco Blocks, a low cost high quality hollow block using coconut coir dust as additive and volcanic cinder as substitute to sand. Certified by the DOST as an excellent alternative to regular hollow blocks, coco blocks has more water absorption capability and strength of 710 PSI which makes it more durable and 25% more cheaper. Coco Blocks improves the lives of 90% of Filipinos who live at poverty level by making use of recycled materials to address the 5 million mass housing backlog of the government.
